Diet Pills

They kind of worry me and I am wondering of all the bad ones that we hear about, and are approved by the FDA - how? How do we not test things like this sooner for issues that seem to be popping up all over the place. :(

None of the diet pills that you see are approved by the FDA except Alli. Alli helps you lose weight by blocking 1/4 of the fat that you intake in a day. I don't know why none of the other diet pills on the market don't have to have FDA approval.

Diet pills are not really the way to go. Most of the ones on the market, with the exception of Alli, just give you a bunch of caffeine and stimulants for energy to curve your appetite. You may lose a few pounds in the short run, but you will gain it right back as soon as you stop taking them. The only way for continued success is to change your lifestyle.

There have been four other FDA approved diet drugs since 1996 and three of the drugs ended up being banned and one severely restricted.

There's such a pull to get diet pills approved because of the big money that goes with selling them. The FDA will simply look at the side effects of these pills and say that because being overweight COULD kill you, then the diet pills are worth the risk of getting:
headache
dry mouth
anorexia
constipation
insomnia
Stroke
Seizures
Increase in blood pressure
Heart disease
Increase in heart rate
Mental impairments
Increased sweating

In this society the fear of being overweight will outweigh the risk of death time and time again.

Some people don't care if they kill themselves to get thin, they don't care about getting healthier as they diet, they'd rather take the pills.

It's sad but true.

such a shame that we have become a society more concerned with "looking good" than be healthy.

I have heard of some that are prescription by your doctor, so that means drs can go Rx something that isnt FDA approved or did I read that wrong (this was on another site also just so you know, not here).

If it's not FDA approved then the doctor is taking a big risk by prescribing them. And it's really scary to think that three were approved at one time and then banned-if so dangerous then why were they approved in the first place? That's messed up.

I see so many ads for stuff like this its really sick. I had no idea so few other than one were really FDA backed. Really makes you wonder of the ethics of the docs and also why more don't research before hand.

Diet pills don't work. The ads that we see on Tv promise that they will produce results if you do this and that. All they want is your money.

You have to be careful. I take them for energy occasionally.
