The cost of food is skyrocketing around the world. Some blame ethanol production. The argument against ethanol is that some people refer to it as putting something in our fuel tank rather than our belly. The other side argues that the corn used isn't fit for consumption anyway. I would argue against that because I use corn packaged for use in pellet stoves to feed my flock of chickens and they are doing just terrific on it. Incidentally I checked there are no chemicals added to this corn.

Cost of food is skyrocketing! Mostly at the movies in my town. Gosh, the price for a small popcorn is around $4! It's a very small bag of it too! It's ridiculous. Also, at my local Pizza Hut a glass of soda is $4! It's a VERY small cup by the way!

The price for a gallon of milk here is about $5, gas prices are right before the $4 mark and just about everything else is following in the states.

That's true, The cost of manufacturing these foods has also contributed to the high cost because workers are finding it hard to cover living expense and are therefore asking for pay raise which in the long run affect the final cost of the product.

That said, I don't think ethanol is the problem with the global food shortage. I also don't think it's the answer to our fuel problems.

Well, I think that food prices are skyrocketing because of gas prices!

Think about it...as I just heard on the news..

How are we getting the food? They're being delivered by trucks and tractor-trailers, big vehicles that require a lot of gas to get from one destination to the other!

Gas - specifically diesel - is tremendously high, and definitely does play a role in how our economy is changing! For the worst too...

On a second thought, I don't think that there is necessarily a world food crisis, just...stupid thinking.

We kill too many animals. Plants would be the best option to eat IMO, they're easy to grow, and provide food for years...

Of course we keep being stupid and expanding our societies and killing the Earth as we know it!

Climate changes have also gotten some of the blame for low food output, for example rice, and the recent disaster in Burma, has led to a spike in prices on the rice market.

If we are not having it now, we will have it in the near future. Some countries are already experiencing it. Don't think it won't happen in our life time as the changes in the climate make it harder for us to produce enough food to the ever rising world population.
