Subject: The long wait for disability

I applied for disability in dec. of 2005. I have a lawyer and still have been turned down. After my hearing I was turned down again. The paper work they sent had nothing I has said and things I never said. It didn`t even have my doctors impairment form in there. Everything he said I can not do they said I could. Now I have to appeal. What a night mare. Anyone else going through this? I have the help of my congressman too.

What continually amazes me is how people we have no disability manage to get it without too much fuss and genuinely disabled people get such a run around they have to get lawyers and politicians involved so they can get what they are entitled to. It isn't better in Canada. I have a friend who fought for a whole year to get disability for his wife who is an invalid in a wheelchair. Without a lawyer she would have never gotten it.

What a struggle you are having. It must be very draining for you. I hope your appeal works in your favour.

My husband was one of the lucky ones. He has terrible arthritis and gout and a few other problems. He actually got his disability on the first try. I was shocked, because as you said most people get the run around unless they really aren't disabled. While he is able to work a few hours a week still, there is no way he could work full-time. There are days he can't even get out of bed. I feel for those of you who are struggling. The issues at social security don't get any better once you get it either.

My father was also very lucky. He had to wait the typical 6 months after he had to get done work due to severe heart disease. Even 6 months seemed crazy to me!

I have a niece that has rhumetiod ( i can`t spell it) arthritis really bad and she got it the first try too. I`m hoping when they see the mistakes I will be approved. They even said I told them I had a car accident in October of 2008! We aren`t even there yet for petes sake.

From the sounds of it they may have confused you with someone else if the information is incorrect and missing. Unfortunately you have to look at the other side too. With so much happening more people than ever are applying for disability, and not all of them should. They need to weed out all wrongful claims and that means being harsh to everyone. Its never been a perfect system, just be glad there is such a thing and you don't simply have to live by Darwin's rules.

That's really bad news. Your lawyer should be handling this very rapidly. If he needs some encouragement call your local governmental officials and complain.

Don't expect much help though. The focus is war now, not public assistance in America.

I already have my congressmans help with this. He is really a very nice man. I hope it gets fixed soon. I`m not sure how long after I finally get approved that it takes to get medicare either. I need that to have the surgery.
