Subject: | testing in public | |
I am not afraid to test in public or give myself a shot in public. I have never gotten any funny looks or comments. I am wondering if anyone else is that comfortable to do these things in public? j |

I am not diabetic so don't have to test or take insulin. I rarely see a person who tests in public and have never seen anyone give themselves their insulin in public. I don't know why as I don't see it as a big deal but apparently it does make people uncomfortable. Then again, that sort of thing is generally done on a schedule so perhaps they just don't have to do it while they're out and about? |

I too do not need to do this, but it is good that you feel comfortable being able to do this in public. |

I don't like to test myself in public at all. I think it is a personal thing. In as much as I like to have clean hands when I draw blood and I want to wash my hands in hot water before I test, I find that going to the bathroom is the most dignified choice. Washing my hands also helps me get a good sized drop of blood so I only need to prick my finger once so I am already in the bathroom so I stay there to test. When I do have to test in front of other people, I tend to try to make it as low key a thing as I can. I know other diabetics who make a production about testing in public, making sure that they are noticed and then holding court as they explain every step, but I feel that testing is a personal thing and not something that's for show. I am not ashamed, but I do feel that I am doing something personal and don't need to show off. I also understand that other people might not be able to stomach seeing me draw blood and I don't feel the need to upset anyone else when I do something I need to do. |

my main reason is I never knwo when i am going to drop or spike. I have found too many bathrooms either to be cramped or messy...... my hubby has poked me and shot me while we driving when i am stopped ata light or cruising down the highway to the next store...... i ahd one interesting thing happen though last year a man came up to me while we were at cracker barrel and asked if he could test his blood,,, he was a truck driver and didnt want to trek out there.. i seem to see a slight commeraderie in insulin users... j |

Aww. It doesn't bother me any more. People always want to know what is going on. |

I don't have to test but, I would be fine seeing someone do it in public. You gotta do what you gotta do. However I am kind of a germ-o-phobe and wouldn't really want to give up my tester to a stranger. |

I do not have a problem with anyone testing in public. If it is something that are comfortable with- then why not. I have never seen anyone do this though. |
