Subject: Teeth Whitening?

I'm looking into getting my teeth whitened. Has anyone ever done this?

I don't smoke or drink coffee-- but my 2 front teeth could be whiter.

I'm just wondering what ways there are to do this? Are they all safe?

Which is the most effective?

I have tried several things, including professional whitening at the doctor's office (ZOOM). Over-the-counter stuff like whitening strips and pens helps *some* but not much. Professional whitening is pricy, rather painful, and it only lasts for a couple years. I wouldn't say the results are that brilliant, either.

I have asked my dentist, and he said OTC teeth whitening is not healthy..They tend to break down the enamel on your teeth.

There are so many different over the counter methods now that you may want to check out the toothpaste isle at your local walmart or somewhere like that and see what they have.

I know the strips are ok but the gels that you put into the guard work better.

I have used the paste, the kind you put on with a little brush and have gotten decent results. However, you are not supposed to eat or drink for a while after using this product. I didn't like it much.

All of these products tend to strip minerals from the teeth, and really should be done under the supervision of a dentist so that he can treat the teeth for this stripping. There are products a dentist can apply after that help reduce sensitivity and so on.

I've used the strips a couple times back when they first came out. Never as much as they said to though as I found after a week my teeth were sensitvie and they normally aren't. I used them at the instructions of both my dentist and orthodontist though who just suggested I cut back. I found once a day every other day for the proper amount of strips (varies depending on which ones these days) was good for me.

I haven't used any of the teeth whitening products, but I have read they are damaging to the enamel. To me whiter teeth is not worth the risk, I already have enough cavities!

I'm dying to buy the most effective teeth whitening products. I can't understand why my teeth is yellowish in color since I was young. When I consult my dentist, she said to me that when my mom was still pregnant, she took a medicine containing anti-biotic that makes my teeth yellowish. How true?

My niece used the strips and now she has problems. It really does ruin the enamel on your teeth. I would just try good old fashion arm and hammer.
