I do not understand those people who go to other countries for surgeries that are either restricted here in the US or fully outlawed on (same with insurance companies). It makes me wonder if these people are even thinking if it is safe, rather than just "Will it save me some money".

I don't think they are usually thinking in terms of saving money. Quite often the procedure is outlawed in this country with good reason but some people think they know better or are willing to take a huge chance with their health.

I don't think everyone who goes outside the US or Canada for that matter to have surgery have the same sorts of motivation. Some people will have a restricted or outlawed procedure done in hopes that it resolves a major health problem that is making them miserable. On the other hand some people will get things done because it is so much cheaper to have it done somewhere else. Some cosmetic surgeries are very inexpensive in some South American countries for example compared to the US.

A lot of people really do choose surgery vacations for reasons of cost. You can take a holiday to India, be pampered, get cut, and still pay less than a quarter of the cost of the US version. Most of the time it is safe too.

The problem of course then it that if you have any complications, infection or whatever then you don't have the support or follow up that you need. I know you can see your own doctor for that but they don't really like to have to deal with the problems that another surgeon causes.
