Subject: Sugar Substitutes

I have seen one recently that says its made from sugar but it is not sugar. How is this even possible, would it not give the same effects?

Well for instance Xylitol is kind of like that. Its actually a sugar alcohol, and highly processed yet it has a third less calories, is safer for diabetics and won't rot your teeth.

I just heard of a new one called Truvia (I think that's what it was called) that is supposed to taste like sugar but comes from a completely different plant. Why is it that instead of cutting down on the sweets in general, humans are constantly just trying to replace it? Some of the alternatives are more dangerous to your health in my opinion.

I saw a clip for that truvia stuff this week and I don't get how its not sugar but its just like sugar and taste the same. I thought taste dealt with ingredients so if its different how is it the same?

What do you think?
