Subject: | STD from urine in your bottled water?! | |
I was reading on this forum about how drugs are beginning to be found in bottled water. These drugs are coming from peoples URINE. First of all this totally disgusts me! But, can't there be more serious issues than just putting drugs in your body from the water? Can you receive an STD from drinking somebody's urine who had an STD? I'm sure there are MANY other dangers of this whole story... |

I would think that this is unlikely. For a start, any diseases in the urine would have to have some kind of food source to keep the organism alive. Secondly, most diseases would be killed in the acidity of the gut. Lastly, have you checked to see if this an urban legend? Sounds a little bogus to me. |

No it is legit. They have had several newscasts and shows on it over the past few months. Some prescription medications have shown up in the drinking water some of this is from people flushing pills but alot has to do with it being expelled from the body during urination. And it is not completely removed when the water is filtered and introduced back into tap water. |

I'm thinking getting an STD from drinking urine is unlikely, and makes me question why you would be thinking about drinking urine.... ...the tap water contamination is true, but at a parts per billion/trillion compared to parts per million used to measure minerals in the same tap water as well as fluoride and chlorine. Since there is no federally established limits its hard to say how bad the levels are, or how long it would take to accumulate enough to do damage. |

That is exactly true. From what has been broadcast about it the amounts found were not enough to cause any real effects or damage but could be traceable in a blood test. |

Yeah it was on the news not real long ago. A man had actually tested positive for birth control use and come to find out it was from his drinking water. It was only minute traces found though. |
