Subject: Should The US Boycott The Olympics in China?

With all the horrible things going on in Tibet and to the citizens of that country, do you think the US should tell China that we won't go to their Olympic games if they don't stop the violence?

I am not one of those people who think the tradition of having the Olympic Games is more important than the rights of people. I don't worship athletes more than I respect all people.

The memory of seeing people being brutalized by Chinese troops because they want their country to be free will stop me from enjoying the Olympics. I doubt I'll even watch it this year.

IMHO. PC is out of control. There's always a conflict. The spirit of the Olympics, for the most part, seems to rise to the top of all of this drama.

I agree with jazzycatzz. In my personal opinion, if the US will stop the Chinese to do what they are doing, they might as well tell the US to stop the invasion or control of Iraq.

I would still would watch Olympics because its the games that is more important to me than the place where it is hosted.

I think the US were to boycott the Olympics in China becaause of their human rights abuses, it would send a very strong message. The dilemma however is that such a boycott would be very hypocritical on the poart of the US.

Did anyone see what happened in Paris yesterday? The oh-so important Olympic torch was attacked by pro Tibet protesters. The torch was extinguished three times and the runner ultimately got on the bus and went off on his way.

Next stop is San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge, where protesters, tethered together on suspension cables halfway up the bridge, already unfurled two giant banners reading "One World, One Dream" and "Free Tibet 'O8." That's a take off of the official slogan of the Beijing Games.

It's time to forget the Olympics. If it doesn't help the world do the right thing then it's just another marketing joke that creates false heroes that will sell products once they win the gold.

I think that, in all good thought, the US should at least boycott the opening ceremony.

Boycotting the Olympics is not going to change what they do anyway. They will continue to do the same thing before and after Olympics.
