Subject: Portion Size

I don't eat a lot but how do you know what a portion size is. I have had friends tell me that a portion size is what can fit into your hand.

I have alwys found this difficult to measure too. Guidlines state that you should eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day, but what makes one of these portions, I would really like to know too, if anyone knows!

You can buy one of those plates that have the portions drawn on it so you can see how much fruit, veg, meat, etc to eat.

A good idea of what a portion is, is the amount of food that will fit in the palm of your hand without spilling over. More so that portions I am concerned with the sodium, caloric, and nutritive aspects of my food. You can eat virtually all the veggies you want without worrying about portion control.

Obesity is caused by what you eat rather than how much you eat for the most part. If your eating a veggie enriched diet, you won't have to watch your diet so much because you will be full before you eat to much fattening stuff. lol

A portion size is usually the same size as the palm of your hand. It's not large at all.

When your told to have three portions of fruit or something that usually means an average size piece of fruit. Not something that fits in your palm.

Of course you can always ask your doctor to explain it to you.

I take too much fruits in my diet like cucumber,apple, sugarcane I also don't know the actual portion of the diet. Do you have any idea?
