Pending they can be ventilated properly but are old houses still safe to breathe the air as long as they do not have asbestos inside? Also would a home inspection fully cover a house that is over 100 years old? I am moving soon and there is one house I would love to live in but I am not sure its safe since I have sensitive allergies. |

If you visit the house and move around in it for a while and not have a reaction afterwards, chances are it's safe, although the reaction could come from being in it over an extended time period. |

With allergies, you will want to make sure there is good ventilation first of all. Often very old homes had lousy ventilation systems. The other big thing to watch for is any signs of prior water damage. There is often mold left in the walls or under floorboards that can wreak havoc with those that have allergies. |

I know a friend of mine got about an 80 year old house and ended up redoing the electric and all the heating ducts. That is the main reason I was wondering how to go about getting an older house (love the style) but I want to make sure its a good house that will not cause issues down the road. |

I would think during a home inspection before someone plans to buy a house something like this would be covered, just to be safe about things. |

I have been doing more research on this since I brought it up to a friend that does real estate. He mentioned that not all home inspections (depending the company or the contractor) will do such a thing. |
