Subject: | Misleading The Public | |
I like the fact that the public is being told about new and different ways of living a healthier lifestyle and the good that people can gain from doing it. But, in a way, people are being mislead. Most people seem to believe that if you don't smoke, drink, and exercise daily you will live for a very long time. There is no guarantee of this. How many fit, active people do you know that have suddenly died from a heart attack, or was diagnosed with cancer or some other disease? If you put your mind to it I'm sure you can think of some people. When people who believe that they are healthy and are suddenly faced with a disease, they feel mislead. The public is made to believe that being healthy means you will never get sick and won't die for a very long time. This just isn't true. Yes, maintain a healthy lifestyle but do not expect to never die and never get sick. Being healthy will help you fight diseases that you might get and being fit will keep you strong but don't expect to live forever without anything going wrong. When Jackie Kennedy found out she had cancer she asked, "What was I doing all those sit ups for?" Yes, I agree that we should do what we can to be as healthy as we can |

I agree with you. In a way I think some of us could be mislead. I think the key messages are to live a healthy lifestyle as much as possible to simply help you achieve better health. |

People have been looking for the Fountain of Youth and a potion for immortality all their lives. We are constantly being told, "Do this and add years to your life." It's no wonder people learn about a new way to live healthy and they start thinking they will live forever. |

Even though what you say is true, I wouldn't want to live my life any other ways. No smoking and drinking do not make me think that I am not enjoying life. In fact, I think that I am feeling happier without getting involved in those activities. Coming back to your discussion, as in everything in life, there is no guarantee that a healthy life will ensure us to live until our golden years. But then again, we should not use it as an excuse for indulging in those activities profusely. |

I think it stinks if you are changing your lifestyle only to find out you are sick- or it's too late you have already done the damage. I know I'm not under the impression that I will be healthy and have no medical problems if I make my lifestyle totally healthy. I will be healthier than I was. That is what is important to me. |

There are even high school age kids who suddenly die while playing a sport. They had an underlying heart problem and didn`t even know it. My mom had a friend that ran every day and was very fit. One day he just died. Ya never know whats inside you that the docs have not found yet. But eating healthy and exercsing isn`t a bad thing. It can help you. |

I have been very active and walked 3 miles a day as well as regular work outs, but almost 3 years ago I simply rolled over in bed and now have a pinched syotic nerve and 3 disks that are enlarged. There is never a guarantee in life. |

I think you need to live your life the way you think is best for you. All of our bodies are different in genetics, and we will all respond differently. Only you can be the judge as to what is good and works for your own body. |
