Subject: | Knuckle Crackin | |
As I get older I have noticed that more and more joints crack, creek, and pop. What causes this? Is there anything one can do to prevent it? |

As you get old the cartilage that is in the joints that surrounds and protects the moving parts starts to wear away. As it wears out, it starts to become uneven and rough and so you hear that grinding noise. When the cartilage wears away a lot you have arthritis in that joint and you can also have pain. They say that you need to exercise to make all the muscles around your joints stronger so your joints don't wear the cartilage away. They also say that eating more calcium and other joint protecting minerals will keep your joints healthy. The studies say that it helps, but from my experience, so far, nothing has helped my noisy joints. The older I get, the noisier they get. It's embarrassing! |

I was going to say the same thing. Well not exactly the same thing. Calcium. Drink lots of milk. I am sure as we get older are bones change and get weaker. This leads to all the noises we hear- it's like our bones are groaning. Exercise and calcium. |

I think this has more to do with the synovial fluid in our joints than it does with actual weakening of the joints themselves, especially in someone that is not a senior citizen. Glucosamine and chondrointin can really help to keep joints strong and maintain healthy fluid levels. |

Glucosamine and chondroitin work great--I take them myself daily. MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) can also help with joint issues. Another thing to consider is water intake. I've read and been told that drinking lots of water helps the joints. |
