Subject: Kids And teachers

I do not understand school systems an teachers anymore. My daughter come home with homework that I really did not understand and I told her it would be best if she got some extra help from her teacher. She told me that the teacher told her it was best towrite down something even if it was wrong.

I told her it was best if you learned how to do it right than write something down just to get it done.

I think teachers just expect you to attempt the homework- otherwise I bet a lot of kids would come in and say they don't understand without even trying.

My daughter always asks me if she doesn't get it. Then we try to figure it out. I'm thankful I have a couple of high school teacher friends. They always seem to come through!

I dont think this implies they want incorrect answers, I think they just want the kids to try and work the problem out.

I have to sometimes go online to help my grand daughter do her homework and she is only in 3rd grade! Some of the stuff they do I have never heard of. Like the other day she had a reading assignment and had to underline all the words in a paragraph that had blended endings . I was like "what?" lol

Sometimes a student asks for help more often than should be necessary, as a way to stall doing the work themselves.

I am not saying that this is what is going on with your child, but if you don't want her just writing anything down, you need to inform the teacher AND any administration, if you don't see improvements or at least paperwork with examples of how the homework is to be completed.

I think the others are right here. I know when I was in school we had a teacher like that (high school algerbra) and everyone would attempt the "I dont get it" and about 80% were just trying to slack off.

I have a niece who comes home with her homework and the first words out of her mouth are "I can't." I have to verbally walk her through the first few problems before she will even attempt one on her own. I think she really believes she can't.

Yep, the same over here. My daughter's teacher gives her topic on her homework that she didn't teach her and expect her to do it. So she always ask me to help her out.

I disagree I think there is a lot more homework these days and a whole lot less teaching. Kids are having more and more difficulty learning these days and I find it hard to believe it is all the children's fault. My 4th and 5th graders come home with packets of homework and no book provided to show them examples they are just expected to completely understand everything they are told in class. Which in my opinion leads to frustration and kids not wanting to learn because it is hard to comprehend something they have to remember and are not given any visual aids to help them through it.

It's easier to tell exactly where the child is having a problem if the teacher can see what the child wrote. For instance if there a math problem and the child has the wrong answer the teacher can see where the mistake was made and help from there.

Simplyme, i have to agree with you. So much is expected of our kids now a days and they are really feeling the pressures. Teachers are expected to meeet more and more targets and in the end its the pupils that are suffering.

I agree that if there is a problem with the schoolwork, its best to call or email the teacher to ask for clarification. Thats what we do but we're fortunate to live in an area with a small school so the teachers are very accessable.
