Is there any truth that food you hunt for yourself is better than foods bought in the food stores around town? I have always wondered this a little. |

I can't think that there is any way to be sure of this. Yes, the foods you get yourself will be fresh, but there isn't any way to know what shape the animal was in when you killed it. Who knows, maybe you got it because it was slow because of some illness. Maybe it has a disease that you can't see from the outside. You don't know if it has been eating healthy food itself or drinking clean, fresh, untainted water. If you are a hunter who knows exactly what to look for in butchering your own food, and you know what tell tale signs means illness, then it might be safe to eat. But I wouldn't take a chance if you don't know what you are doing. |

I definitely think it is a catch 22. The meat is definitely fresher if you slaughter it yourself and then consume it. I also have to agree with skatss as you don't know where the animal has been eating and there is always a chance of disease. Sean |
