Subject: | Heating Pads | |
I have absolutely horrid periods that can leave me crippled in the floor or suddenly nauseous. One of the few things I've found that helps alleviate the pain any at all is heating pads, but I have a life and traditional heating pads that don't hold heat very long are pretty much useless. I've been using those stick-on heating pads, but I'm a little concerned about what's in them. How are they able to stay warm for so long and is there stuff inside them that I should be concerned about (like any harmful side effects they might cause)? Are there any alternatives out there that aren't so expensive (I have to use more than one at a time and it really adds up)? |

I've used those heating pads for a few things and they are truly amazing. The one I used had these metallic disks that heat up once you expose it to air. They last for a few hours and can be stuck or tied on. I doubt there are any side effects since nothing actualy goes into your body. If you periods are that bad (mine were like that too when I was younger) go to your gynecologist and insist that she do something for the pain. There's no reason that you have to suffer each month when there are some pain relievers that might work and permit you to actually live on those bad days. If there's nothing that can be done to help stop the pain by treatment, then get some pain killers. Life is too short to have to suffer like that. |

I have used icy hot pads for my back and they are truely amazing. It is like instant relief. I don't think that they are puting out any harmful chemicals, but I don't know for sure. |

I have bad ones too, but have been taking tablets, which I really don't like doing because of the side effects that do occur, plus putting all of that chemical in my body is not good. Where can I get those heating pads to buy, I am sure they are safer than taking tablets. |

With all that pain have you ever been checked for endometriosis? My wife had a great deal of pain during her period and it turned out that that was a very big part of the problem. |

I know you don't want to use chemicals, but I've used mild pain reliever creams on my tummy before. They're usually ones meant for muscle injuries or arthritis, so maybe you should check around for similar creams in a more natural form that you could use. It might do more and last longer than the heating pads are. |

Supposedly heating pads work. We've even tried rubbing olive oil on my girlfriend's stomach/menstrual area before to help relieve periods. We've tried just about every remedy out there... I'd suggest having a midol and putting yourself in a comfortable position, and resting... Contact a doctor if it gets serious enough. |

Heating pads work great for me. I use them for my back and have had great success with them. |
