Subject: | Garlic Smell | |
I know that garlic is very healthy for you and the flavor it adds to foods is amazing. My question is -- how do you get rid of the smell? Both after handling it when cooking and after you eat it? My neighborhood is Russian and in the mornings the subway by me reeks of garlic and I am afraid I might smell of it too. After I cut it, the smell of the garlic and any onions I touch remains on the skin. No matter how often I wash and no matter how much the soap has a scent, the smell of garlic stays on. I really need to learn how to get rid of the smell or I am going to stop using it. |

To remove garlic odor from the hands, just rub your hands with a piece of stainless steel flatware under running water and most of the smell magically goes away. |

I heard that To rid your cutting board of onion or garlic smells, rub the surface with the cut side of a lime or lemon or paste of baking soda and water will also work. I would imagine it would work on your skin as well. |

Why don't you try rubbing lemon on your hands? Or maybe lemon juice? That should probably work I'm guessing. I hate the smell of garlic, ugh gross! I do love garlic bread, but there was this one time where I went to eat at my boyfriends family-members house and they had so much garlic on the garlic bread, I couldn't even taste the bread! It was like I was drinking garlic. It was pretty nasty! I'm sure I smelled like garlic the rest of the week! It's weird how you can't notice your own smell sometimes isn't it? |

But what about the garlic smell that comes from your body? I read that you can put a clove of crushed garlic in your shoe and hours later your breath will smell of it! How can a person make sure that their body doesn't give off that smell? Like I said, the subway I take in the morning reeks of the garlic that people had eaten the night before. I tried fresh lemon. It works to stop the smell right away, but hours later my hands smell again. I just looked around online and saw that a metal disk is sold that you use to wash your hands to stop the smell. Does it really work? I'd hate to waste money. I guess I could buy rubber gloves to wear when I cut garlic, but again, what about the smell that comes from your body after you have eaten it? |
