Subject: Gardening

We are making more and more of an effort to produce our own food. The while not easy is relaxing and makes me feel better physically. I also know what I'm eating. I don't have to worry much about chemical residues or anything like that. I also think what we grew ourselves is more nutritious. Anyone else here expanding their gardening this year?

Not so easy to do in the city in an apartment. Containers on the balcony and window boxes is about it. Guess I could get a grow light or something but that might not be very cost effective.

I also have very limited growing space although I do grow tomatoes in a container. I also am trying my hand at potatoes this year. I am using an extra large storage containger. I just hope it will be deep enough for the potatoes to grow down.

I started sometime last year but I had a few problems, including animals eating the plants. I also did not have enough time to keep a close enough eye on them, so they died.

I am still working on it myself but so far we have a couple of things growing but nothing too good. I would love any pointers you might have, sometimes I wonder if I have a brown thumb or not.

I think if you are just starting a backyard garden you should seek as much help as possible and not try to do it alone. This is where my failed, but I intend to give it another try.

I think if more of us could take the time to grow our own, we would end up using less.

Part of the issue now is the world can not deal with the fact that so many people are so darn greedy.

Most, if not all, states offer a gardener program. You can attend and learn all about how to grow things in the area where you live. My friend just did this in Texas and loved it since she just moved there and grows lots of her own vegetables.
