Subject: | Does drinking hot beverages with a meal help digestion? | |
I read this somewhere but don't remember where. It said if you drink a hot beverage with your meal (tea, coffee, etc.) that it can help digestion by keeping any fats you consumed in a softer or even liquid state. This is supposed to make them more digestible. It went on to say that drinking cold liquids make the fat firm up and take longer to digest. This makes sense in a way to me but I wonder if it is true. Has anyone else heard of this? Smitty |

I have heard of this as well, but really do not know if their is any truth to that rumor or not. It sounds like it would work though. |

I don't know if it's true or not, but I thought I've heard the opposite - that very cold drinks help with calorie burn because it takes energy for the body to heat itself up again...maybe it's the same theory with hot beverages (taking energy to cool the body down). |

I have never heard of this either. I know drinking cold drinks or ice water makes you feel full quicker- so you eat less to digest? |

I am not sure, but it would make a little sense really. |

I could see how it could help by keeping the fat from congealing in your stomach so you can digest it a bit more easily. Drinking cold drinks do burn a few more calories but I think that is a general statement and not really at meal time. I could be wrong though. I saw results from a study resently that said drinking water before your meal really doesn't cause you to eat less. I know I drink a LOT of water both before and with my meal and I don't notice any difference. |

No, Hot Beverages with your meals is good for your digestion. It melts Gas build up in the stomach which enables the stomach for better digestion. Have anyone been hospitalized? If so have you ever noticed that when they give you your breakfast, lunch or dinner they always serve it with Tea or Coffee?? Think about it..., There's a reason for that!! |
