Subject: | Do You Have The Time? | |
We are supposed to see our dentist twice a year, our doctors just as much. We are supposed to exercise thirty minutes a day, three times a week, are supposed to check our feet to make sure that there's nothing wrong and clip the nails. We're supposed to plan a good meal for each day, cook the meal and think of more for next week. We are supposed to save for the future, call our parents each week, call our friends just as much, read the latest news articles, watch the presidential debates, sort our garbage for recycling, shred our unwanted mail, pay the bills in time, bring the library books back in time, walk the dog, be prepared for emergencies, change the batteries in the smoke alarms, clean the house, wash the floors, spend time with the kids -- and there's more I'm blacking out. Do you have time to do all of it? Sometimes it's months before I even think of seeing my dentist again. Sometimes I don't have time to exercise and have even less of the desire to do it. Does anybody have the time to do all that we're supposed to do? And then, do you feel guilty when you don't get to do everything? |

Sounds like you have a lot on your mind. What I would do is write it all down and delegate which tasks needs to be done daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. Then, figure out how important each task is and do the most important things first. You can only do so much. |

I agree. What's most important to you in life? Keeping your teeth? Saving your life if a fire burns your house down? Once you decide what is most important to you and your family then you just have to decide that you will not feel guilty if something gets left out. |

I feel the same way sometimes. I become scatter brained when I have too many irons in the fire. Focus on whats important. |

I certainly do not do everything. Iam currently on vacation, doing nothing super, just trying to rest. Before I went on vactaion, I became so overwhelmed with everything that was going on around me. I became so unhappy and grouchy. |

I do the best I can and I let go of the guilt for not doing all of it. Who says we are "suppposed" to do all these things anyway. We're adults and we need to choose what is important to us. There are enough hours in the day to do everything. I'm semi-retired and my husband is fully retired and we still can't keep up with all that needs to be done to take care of ourselves, our family and our home and cars. We're always behind! |

I am sure I don't exercise enough and no I doubt I drink 8 full glasses of water either. I always try and prioritize to get my ducks in a tow, but if something like take the trash out takes an extra day, so be it. |

Balance is important. If you're working too much, of course other things will go undone. If you're sitting too much in front of the TV, of course other things will go undone. Figure your priorities and work out what works best for YOU - not what others say you should do. |
