Subject: | Dealing With Sudden Stress | |
To say that I am depressed right now would be an understatement. I am at my wit's end with worry, afraid, upset, and angry. I did not see this situation coming and now that it has I do not know how to handle it. How do you cope with stress? |

I realize at some point being stressed out is just not healthy. I normally try to make a plan to deal with the sources of the stress, or at least try my best to deal with it. This is normally followed by a list with a plan of action. This in itself is therapeutic for me and helps at least in the short term. |

I was thinking the same thing as purple. The best way to deal with an unexpected situation is to think about what you can do to help. There are usually options for every bad situation; it's just a matter of focusing on solutions instead of letting fear overwhelm you. Once you start thinking of the situation from a different angle, it can really help you get a handle on the stress. Try asking yourself what's the worst thing that could happen? Think about that for a while and what would really happen. Once you've thought through and created a plan of action for the worst thing, the rest of it is put into a better perspective. |

First, I cry it out. Personally, I pray about the problem or situation. Then I try to put things into perspective. I make contacts as necessary to help with the situation. I try not to get too frazzled out because I make irrational decisions. |

I once tried one of those stress balls but they are complete crap. I will always try to let my mind be at ease, and I have stood in a hot shower for more than 30 minutes before just trying to relax, its hard, but it can be done. Dont give up so soon! |

yikes. When sudden stress strikes, I find I first go into my shell, so to speak, then break into action trying to do things. My brother was killed in a car accident a few years ago, and it was sudden and shocking and very depressing. Good luck, and I hope you find some resolution soon. |

I HATE excercise. But when I'm stressed out and depressed about the world, I walk around the neighborhood. I walk through the park and down to the pond. I walk around it and by then, I'm feeling sort of okay. By the time I walk home, I've gotten bored with my own thoughts and I'm looking forward to getting home again - but I'm feeling much less stressed. Try it - it's a combination of natural endorphins and vitamin D from being outside and doing something other than worrying about things you can't control any way |

It does sound like you are under a lot of stress but when I see how you are feeling (depressed, worried, afraid) I tend to think there may be more to it. Speaking from personal experience you may be suffering from depression and/or anxiety. I think it would be a good idea to consult a Dr and find out for sure. There are dozens of ways to reduce the affects of stress. Some will help, some don't. It depends on the person and what is best for them. Try some relaxation techniques or something else to help clear your mind. I tend to play a mindless video game and that helps me. I hope things get better. Chris |
