Subject: Convection Ovens

Does anyone have one? We just thought about purchasing one and I am wondering if the food will taste "cardboard" like a normal microwave or if it will really taste like it just came out of the oven?

I haven't used one in the home but I used to work with these combi microwaves. They did just fine-the results were a little more predictable than a normal oven but otherwise they were ok.

I used to own a convectional oven and loved it. I felt like the food tasted oven baked and it cooked in half the time.

My husband's grandmother has and uses a convection oven on a daily basis. I have eaten food cooked in this oven on many occasions and it has always tasted oven fresh. As for microwaves, I believe they have improved a great deal and food cooked in them is much better than it used to be.

I have a convection oven and I LOVE it. It tastes just like oven baked, and takes a fraction of the time and a fraction of the energy bill!

I've ever heard good things about them although the only one I've ever used was in an industrial kitchen. I've always been very hit or miss with microwave cooking although the systems sold by Tupperware work amazing if you have a nice microwave not a cheap $20 unit.

What systems by tupperware are those? You mean the things that you microwave your food in, like the microwave egg poachers and so on?

Trying to find one with a decent price is almost insane. I see some advertised for more than my mortgage but I am still on the hunt and keeping an eye out.

I keep reading up that they do cut the time in half at least if it more, and they are better on the electric bill too. I have yet to find one in my budget though.
