Subject: Charity work

I just ran across a lady online that knit sweaters for penguins when they were caught in an oil spill. Does anyone do charity work like this at all?

I've never done anything like that the closest thing to charity work that I have done is volunteering at an animal rescue over 40 hrs/wk and donating to misc. childrens medical charities.

It would be great to be hands on like that though for sure that was really neat.

I had never heard about knitting sweaters for penguins so I looked it up! And behold, it is true! Here's a link to the story in snopes.com!

Amazing!

I have only done the usual helping things like entertain at homes, help collect clothing and such. If I could knit well, I think it would be nice to know that a little penguin was wearing a sweater that I had made.

I have heard of many stories about people knitting things for cancer patients and such. I never heard about this though. I donate clothes and stuff but I don`t knit or crochet. It would be a cool thing to do though for any type of charity. I have thought of donating my hair but I really don`t want to cut it.

I do a lot of volunteer work with my local animal rescue, and also donate all sorts of items to the Salvation Army. But one of my most favorite things to do is to volunteer at the soup kitchen for the holidays, it is such a wonderful way to give back :)

I heard about this online of course but it seemed like a great thing to do, of course I am no knitter but I would help some other way (maybe catch the pengis?). :)

When I first read this thread, I thought this is a joke. But skatss really knows how to put my doubts to rest. I just couldn't believe my eyes with what I saw in the link. Penguins wearing knitted sweaters? Hmmm, it does has some logic to it as knitted sweaters will really soak out the oil in their bodies.
