Subject: | Blessings In Wool | |
A few weeks ago a new volunteer showed up at the chemo center where my sister gets her chemotherapy. The woman offered everyone a piece of plastic canvas and a needle and different colors of wool, or some wool and some knitting needles or crochet hooks. She also had a book of different needlepoint or knitting or crochet creations for everyone to look at and then she'd make a copy of any project they wanted. At first I didn't think that it was a good idea. Most of the people there getting their chemo are not in the best state and they usually try to sleep during the horrible time while they get their chemo. My sister is sick when she gets her meds and has pains in her hands and at first she didn't want to try anything, but the lady insisted and gave her a needle and canvas and some wool and told her that it was there if she wanted to try it. I have to say, last week every single person, hooked up to their chemo IVs, including my sister, were all working on some sort of needlework project. Some were knitting or crocheting too. Everyone looked a bit more lively and people were talking and showing off what they knew and what they were working on. This has shown me that working in needlepoint or with wool is something that can enrich everyone's lives. I also want to thank the woman who has come in and helped all the people who are having their chemo. Her caring to help and give her time to people suffering through their medication, has helped so much. She has all our thanks. |
