Subject: | Birthmark removal. | |
I have a huge chocolate brown birthmark on the calf of my leg. I am more than a little self conscious about it. In fact I have never learned to swim because I can not bring myself to wear a swim suit. I wear long pants even in the summer. I have considered having it surgically removed but wonder how much better a scar that size would look. Does anyone here know anything about that sort of thing. |

Here is a nice site that provides some info on where to start with birth mark removal. The first thing I would do is schedule a consultation with your dermatologist. http://www.cosmeticsurgery.com/research/cosmetic-surgery/Birthmark-Removal/ |

I had a friend in high school who went through a procedure to remove a birthmark from his face. It was a painful procedure that didn't work at all. |

Thanks for the website gbyrd. That was helpful. I guess my next it to look for a qualified doctor to consult with. In Canada here generally I have to go to my family physician first to get a referred to the appropriate specialist. As for how big is big. Well it is almost the size of my whole hand. |

I had a friend when I was little who had laser treatment for her birthmarks which covered her head and face and neck. They didn't work much for her either but hers were the bright red variety not brown. |

Cosmetic surgey would be the right route.Gene Simmons daughter had a huge fist size mark on her face. They really lightened it. They could probably perscribe a cream to help dull it. |

Hmm did not know they even had surgery to remove birthmarks. It does seem like it would be very painful though. |
