Subject: Aversions

I've a friend who has rather strong aversions to a bunch of things-some of which are rather innocuous and causes problems with daily life. How can you deal with that if you suffer from that kind of thing?

If the problem is serious enough that it is interfering with daily life, I'm afraid your friend may need professional help. Many times there are anxiety medications that can be taken while they are working through issues with a counselor.

There are other things that might help-such as a counsellor working with him to desensitize him to those things. Just like with phobias and working to overcome them, it can be done.

He seems to think its just normal to not be able to be in the same room as someone using ketchup, or the other things he has a problem with. I guess until he sees that there is a problem there won't be any chance of treatment.

It makes me wonder how hard it must be for those who have issues towards to many things. Almost like you can not leave your house for fear of everything.

I know it can be done myself but sometimes there is a strong battle that many are not up for just yet. Having a good support system does help though thats what did it for me.

Could very well be up to what is going on in this persons life. Are you aware of anything major going on or how to help support them maybe?

lacy is that always the case or is that the best recommendation that most doctors will tell patients? I have heard mixed things on this that some say only one is needed at a time, meds or a doctor but not always both unless its an extreme case.

What do you think?
