Subject: An apple a day

Research has proven that while an apple a day may not keep the doctor away, it does help keep you more alert than a few cups of coffee can. So the next time you feel tired and sluggish, instead of a can of soda, try biting in to a nice juicy apple. You will be amazed at how much better you feel.

What I heard is that apples do not contain caffeine but the carbohydrates in the apple work in a very similar way on the body.

Never heard that they contain anything remotely caffeine like. They do contain a large amount of sugar which might help pick you up though.

You almost make apples sound like they're bad for you! I'm sure they have some fructose content, but I'm certain there's less sugar in them than a chocolate cookie.

That is good info to have I never thought of apples as a way to perk you up. I guess when you actually look at it though it does make sense.

And don't forget that recent studies have shown that apple and apple pectin will actually kill colon cancer cells in the body!

With what's going on with my family, this is more important than keeping alert!

I love apples and they are so refreshing to eat. My kids also love them so they make a great treat for them as well.

Apples do contain sugar---but it is natural sugar.

The natural sugar in the apple gives you long term sustainable energy as it is harder to break down.

Apples are also great in that they burn more calories to consume than they contain creating a negative calorie affect.

Even though the apple is a good source of all kinds of vitamins, my dad will not eat it unless it is peeled because he does not want to injest the chemicals used to ensure the apples have long live.

You also are suppose to eat the skin on the apple~ that is what I read somewhere.

It helps in burning calories.

To me, the old saying does ring some bells. But remember to peel off the apple skin as it is heavily waxed. You wouldn't want to take that as well. It may cause you harm in the long run.
