Subject: | 7 Tips for Exercising With Nerve Damage | |
Too many times articles are written telling people who have nerve damage that they should still exercise. You get nerve damage from diabetes and from some drugs used for chemotherapy. The problem is that they don't give useful hints to use to get exercising safely. In this article I found some tips for people with nerve damage that are actually useful. 7 Tips for Exercising With Nerve Damage Neuropathy doesn't have to put an end to your physical activity routine — you can keep exercising if you take a few precautions: Avoid repetitive weight-bearing exercises, such as long walks or jogging. Try swimming, bicycling, chair exercises, and arm exercises. Never go barefoot except when taking a bath or in bed. Always do long, low-intensity warm-up and cool down exercises to ease your heart into and out of the activity. You'll need a good pair of running or walking shoes and socks that wick away moisture. Each time you exercise, check your shoes for nails, pebbles, or tears in the lining before you put them on. Make sure your socks are not too thick — particularly the seam — so you don't put added pressure on your feet. Check your feet after every exercise session for redness, swelling, blisters, or cuts. If you find an injury, get treated by your doctor promptly. |
