Subject: 10 Tips on How to Catch a Liar

Here are 10 tips that will help you recognize telltale signs that a person isn't being honest; like inconsistencies in a story, behavior that's different from a person's norm, or too much detail in an explanation.

1.) Look for Inconsistencies - When you want to know if someone is lying, look for inconsistencies in what they are saying. If something doesn't make sense or illogical.

2.) Ask an Unexpected Question - If you know something they don't know and they don't expect it, ask them one question that you know they aren't prepared to answer in hopes to trip them up a bit.

3.) Gauge Their Behavior - Be on the lookout for a sudden change in their behavior. Example: The person who was calm suddenly becomes anxious and vice versa.

4.) Look for Fake Emotions - For example you can look for insincere emotions such as a smile. Maybe they have incorrectly timed their smile, or hold their smile too long, or look for a partial smile, etc...

5.) Listen to Your Gut - Seeing one thing and feeling another are two different things so be sure to listen to your gut reaction or your women's intuition.

6.) Look for Micro-Expressions - When a person is acting happy, but is actually really upset or angry watch for their true emotion to show through in a brief instance. Watch the person carefully for their true emotion that is brewing in their subconscious to appear in a blink of an eye (25th of a second) on their face.

7.) Behavioral Contradictions - Look for some aspect of the person’s demeanor that is contradicting what the person is actually saying.

8.) Acting Uneasy - Watch the person carefully and see if the person doesn't make eye contact, sweats profusely, looks away, doesn't act normal, or anything that indicates anxiety.

9.) Devil is in the Details - When someone gives you way too much details then it could possibly mean they have put allot of time and effort into creating an alibi of how they will get out of their current situation.

10.) Find the Truth - Sometimes we can find the truth buried under a lie that can sometimes help find the answer to the "real truth" or important questions we need to ask that lead to the truth.

Very interesting. Alot of people get defensive when you catch them in a lie.

As a successful marketer for many years, being able to gauge the honesty score has always been a necessary part of my repertoire. All of these tips are good; the ability to see micro-expressions (6) has been especially effective for me.

I can not stand liars. In my opinion the best way to catch a liar is to watch for inconsistencies (#1)in their stories. Sometimes, the story may seem possible but as you pry for more info in the future or for a recap story, things change. Some people are very natural liers, because they have a lot of practice. But they forget in the future details of a particular scenario.

Lying to me is the worst possible thing it do. Once you start the lie then you have to keep making up lies to cover the other lies and sooner or later the truth will come out then you are made to look like a fool.

People often hate in others what they truly hate about themselves.

It's often true that a compulsive liar is compensating for a lack of something significant in his/her life.

Such a shame
