Anyone worried about all the side effects that drugs have today? Virtually every drug that comes out now has a list of side effects a mile long.

Is this just because they are more careful bout reporting them now or are the new drugs coming out with more side effects?

I think we see more sided effects listed now adays because we know much more about the meds before they reach the market, and also so the drug manufacturers are not as liable for the drug side effects.

All drugs have side effects but we hear more about them so in case we feel sick while taking the drug we know if we should contact our doctor.

I think the listing of the side effects is mostly a precautionary thing. Just something for the consumer to be aware of.

They have to list everything but rarely do people suffer with these things it is so be on the safe side.

All side effects listed so you know what to look for in case you begin expiriencing adverse reactions. The list has grown longer over time because both of the reasons that ewills mentioned.

There really has been no change in the number of side effects. What has changed is the ability of pharmaceutical companies to advertise.

When they couldn't advertise, only your doctor and pharmacists knew everything that could happen, and could choose what to tell their patients or what information to with hold. Advertising has changed all of that.

Nothing about the medications has changed, but the amount of information the average person gets has.

They list everything out so that you won't sue them if you ever develop one. Anyway, information such as this prove valuable as it might help with the diagnosis of the condition you might get after taking them.

I think they have to list everything that could happen because of so many lawsuits these days. Someone else mentioned that too. And I also agree that they are able to list more side affects as the drug becomes known more. And more is known about its side effects.

Side effects... Sometimes they are the evil you have to live with. My mom is on life-supporting medication that can cause heart problems, digestive problems, and all kinds of other things, too many to mention. Mom has no choice but to take the meds anyway.

As to why there seems to be more side effects today, I think it is because there is more information, more study, more cases known.
