Subject: What's the Deal With Tylenol and Liver Damage?

I take a drug that has tylenol as a part of the drug and the doctor told me to make sure I didn't exceed the dosage because the tylenol in the medicine would damage my liver. When did they learn that tylenol would damage your liver? This was certainly news to me, I thought it was a relatively safe drug.

It is relatively safe as far as medications are concerned but nearly any type of pain related medication comes with the risk of liver damage if taken too much or in too large of a quantity.

Excessive doses of Tylenol do cause liver damage and the pharmaceutical industry has known this for a very long time. I believe it is written on the packaging. I don't know for sure how long they have known but it is something easily avoided if you do not take more than the recommended dosages.

I have also heard this for a long time-perhaps the last 10 years I think. I believe that is just in really massive doses however. I've also heard the same thing about ibuprofen.

What do you think?
