Subject: | Spit AIDS test | |
Come January 2009, Bejing intends to offer free spit HIV test instead of the blood tests most have come to know and hate. If they are able to do that, doesn't that say that the saliva has the virus and it can be passed on by say kissing? http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-12/01/content_10440442.htm |

I think it's great that they have an accurate test for HIV that doesn't involve blood as it would be cheaper and easier to test people. I have to admit, the same thought crosses my mind, as well. If it's detectable in saliva, how does it not pass through it? |

No it doesn't mean that the virus is in the saliva. It means that the antibodies are in the saliva, for it is the antibodies not the virus that the test picks up. |
