Subject: | New obesity drug looking to enter the market in 2009 | |
Simular to the drug Fen-Phen, lorcaserin is designed to stimulate a protein in the brain that makes people feel full without boosting a similar protein that caused fen-phen to damage heart valves. If Lorcaserin can help people lose weight for a year, Arena said it will ask U.S. regulators for approval in 2009. The drug would be Arena's first marketed product and may generate more than $1 billion a year in sales, analysts said. More http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601124&refer=home |

I think this drug needs to face a lot of safety testing. Too many drugs that address non-fatal conditions are approved before we have a real sense of how safe it is. I would hope when and if this is approved it is limited to carefully monitored use by those with mobid obesity or proven difficulty with that particular brain chemical. |

I don't know why everyone is so quick to jump on the band wagon, for a new diet drug. I have heard too many horror stories from different diet drugs. |
