Subject: | Drugs on an empty stomach | |
Can you still believe that there are people who still insist on taking tablets on an empty stomach? I had a case recently where someone who stayed at my house did that, they ate like a half an hour later, but they had a weak feeling and was very light headed. I started to panic after the symptoms were still there after a whole day. |

Some medications require you to take them on an empty stomach. I couldn't tell you which I recall having that did that, but it always made me a bit ill feeling. I called my doctor to ask about it and was told it really did need to be taken on an empty stomach and nothing for at least a couple hours after. I normally had a couple saltines though which helped. |

I do understand how you feel on this. I wonder sometimes if people think that the directiosn on the meds are just to waste space. |

Most medications are better with something in your stomach as many meds will really do a number on your stomach lining as well as the rest of your digestive tract. Even if it doesn't upset your stomach, it's still safer to eat first unless the medication specifically states not to. |

Make sure to read the instructions before taking any of it, if they are over-the-counter medicines. If they are prescribed, the doctors usually tell us when these medications should be taken. But as for me, I always make sure that my stomach has something before taking any drugs. |

Paying attention to the directions on the pill bottle is the most important thing to do. But unless the directions say otherwise, people also tend to forget that they should drink an 8 oz glass of water to get the pills down. Water should be the drink of choice with pills since other liquids, like juice and coffee, might have things in it that will interfere or work against your pill, like caffeine, acid, vitamins and milk. If you don't feel well after taking a pill, and it happens often, then you should ask your pharmacist about it. Your doctor might know about your pill, but the pharmacist would know all the details of what you should have with it. The pharmacist will also tell you if you should contact your doctor. |

With my medication I am supposed to take it twice a day. In the morning though I am not hungry and I usually take my pill with my morning coffee and will eat something mis morning. I have now realized after feeling queasy a few times that I do need to eat something with my medication even if I have to force something down. |
