Subject: | Drug Storage | |
What would you do with drugs that have been stored in less than ideal conditions? Item in particular is a bottle of ibuprofen left in a bathroom that got very, very warm one day-probably 100f or more. Should I throw them away? |

Ibuprofen left for only 1 day in hot temperatures? I would not have a problem continuing to use it, but that is just my personal opinion. |

One day shouldn't affect the efficacy of ibuprofen. It's when it's consistently stored in high temperatures that it begins to break down. Actually, did you know that the bathroom is one of the worst places to store medications? The high humidity in the bathroom can cause more damage to medications than the heat. |

If they are normal ibuprofen pills and they look ok (ie there not coated and stuck together), they should be ok. |

I would still use them if it was like one day, but I would look out for any symptoms that may result from it, in which case I would discontinue use. |

A day shouldn't have any problem and should work out affectively. I would prefer to continue it over again. |

I actually did not know that the bathroom was so bad. I store probably 70% of my medicines in there because there isn't anywhere else that is child safe in the house. Any recommendations for safe alternatives would be appreciated! |

There should be no problems unless otherwise noted on the medication packaging, ie don't store at temperatures above 70 degrees. You can definitely call them and ask this question. IMO, you shouldn't have a problem/there should be no problems with the pills unless they started melting or getting stuck together. |

If it has been stored in the bathroom then the heat and moisture in that room is always high and the pills have been exposed to it a lot. It's only ibuprofen. When in doubt, throw it out! |
