My grandfather is 96 and honestly pretty healthy for his age. He has a wee problem though-he lies all the time to his docs. So his docs think he's taking his pills and that he still has high blood sugar and blood pressure. Therefore they up his pills-he gets sick from over medication and then refuses to take them. Finally he's stopped taking all his meds completely. His blood pressure and sugar is better than its been in years and he is out of bed every day and active..... How do you deal with a person who you dearly love that won't tell the truth to the doctors, or do what he is told to do? |

At 96 I doubt your grandfather will ever learn to trust the doctors. It may be possible for someone else to discreetly advise the doctors of reality. One question that does come to mind. Is his blood pressure measured only at the doctor's office or hospital? If it is his mistrust of the doctors is likely making the reading higher than it normally is. |

My mother was that way for the longest time and until something she could not "fix at home" happened she did so all her adult life. Your gramps is very lucky, thats not always the case for some people. |

Very lucky. There are people who would keel over and die if they went without their meds for a day or two. It sounds though that he is lacking the right kind of attention. I know it sounds a little childish, but maybe he needs something to do instead of seeking out attention. |

Some people never want to be honest even with those who can help. I have noticed this more with those people who end up never wanting to ask for help, that might be the case here. |

Do you think that a good many of people just lie to stand up and make others think they are better than they really are. And how many people actually do this? |

If the doctors think that why has no one called him out on this? It seems like if they have reason to suspect it they need to catch it before it does some real damage to him. |
