Subject: | Alternative medicine on the rise | |
This article is proposing that as much as 38% of people turn to alternative medicine for their conditions. That's a whole lot. Even children are participating in these sessions. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/10/AR2008121001601.html?hpid=moreheadlines |

I am not surprised about this because medicine as we have come to know it has so many side effects and persons are getting sick from medication as well. |

I agree that more oversight is needed in the alternative medicine field but I'm glad to see people turning back to some of the time-honored natural remedies that were scoffed at in the past. Too often we look for a magic pill to cure all of our ills when we could prevent much illness by proper diet and natural supplements. |

I have seen this on the rise as well and from some people who ended up shunning alternative's in the past but are now taking a second look at things. |

All we are doing by relying on meds is leaving ourselves resistant to the meds and unable to get help when we really, desperately need it. Searching out alternatives instead of exhausting our available drugs is excellent. |

The problem with oversight with alternative medicine is that very few states recognize practioners on natural medicine. In my home state you have to consult over the phone or travel to a neighboring state to get any reliable advise. Most medical doctors are pushing the pharmaceuticals and do not want to address natural alternatives. |

DanaS you bring up a very good point that I have been trying to tell my spouse for a good while now. I am more "do it yourself" rather than "lets get in the car and go see a doc". Most insurances companies do not do that either MissyA, mine doesn't. |
