Subject: Why flu strikes in cold weather

I have always wondered what it is about cold weather that makes you more susceptible to illness. Finally I have an answer to my question.

Scientists just found that viruses coat themselves in fatty material that hardens to a gel, protecting them in the cold.

This coating melts in the higher temperatures of the respiratory tract, allowing the virus to infect cells.

Although they have come to this conclusion about viruses in the cold, they are yet to find out why some viruses thrive in tropical climates.

That is interesting. I very rarely get the flu but when I do it always seems to happen when the cold weather is around
