Subject: What do you take for low thyroid?

I take something that isn't the 'norm' according to my insurance company so I have to pay for it entirely out of pocket.

It is called thyrolar and it hits T3 and T4 which makes it work much better for me.

What are you taking and how is it working?

I don't have a thyroid problem though some in my family do. The suggestion in this situation is normally that you appeal to your insurance company. You'd have to have your doctor state why you cannot take the med that is in your plan, but normally you can get it paid for.

Usually if there is a reason why you are on that particular medication, the doctor can file for a prior authorization so the the insurance company will cover it. I hadn't heard of this med but will be asking my doctor. I currently take levothyroxine (the generic of Synthroid) and am not finding it all that helpful.

I have low thyroid and take levothyroxine also. It helps with the feeling of being so tired....most of the time. However, it hasn't helped with the low metabolism and weight. I have lost a few pounds but had hoped that when my medication was finally adjusted properly, I would lose more.
