Time to clean up those bad habits

Besides causing lunge cancer and liver damage, smoking and drinking in excess has been found to spur the onset of Alzheimers. A study of 900 people aged over 60 found early onset was most likely in those who also had a high-risk gene.
A second US study found people with high cholesterol in their early 40s are one and a half times more likely to develop Alzheimer's.

It's true that we all have to be more careful about smoking and drinking but let's face it even if you don't smoke or drink and even if you exercise and eat right, that doesn't mean you'll live to be 100. Cancer, Alzheimer's, and many other deadly diseases can strike anyone at any time.
George Burns lived to be over 100 and he never stopped drinking or smoking.
Part of getting sick or not getting sick is pure luck and genes but it sure couldn't hurt to smoke or drink a little less.

I agree, some of the luck we have in the length of life is due to genes. Also, I think how we eat can do as much damage to our bodies as smoking and drinking.

I would really like to know more about this one, esp. on the Alzheimer's note. My grandmother had it and never smoked or drank (nor around anyone that did).
