Why is it that doctors tell a smoker to stop smoking days before a surgery? I have a friend that needs some type of surgery for kidney stones that he has been having and for him to not smoke for a few days after smoking for so long is really tearing him apart. |

It's in order for the blood pressure to come down to normal as smoking makes your blood pressure jump and it's to allow the lungs to clear as much as possible so the anesthesia is safer. |

That is good to know. I really thought it had something else to do with besides the BP. A friend of mine just had his gall bladder taken out and they put him on the patch afterwards when he had to stay in the hospital. |
