Subject: | Sugar and Cancer | |
There is a woman in my church who had/has liver cancer. She has had stage 4 for four years now. She heard that if she stopped eating sugar it would stop the growth of cancer. She tried it and her tumors have actually been shrinking and she's lived well past her 6 month timeframe. I looked it up once and found lots of info saying it wasn't true, and what not, and some supporting the theory, but there haven't been studies. What do you think? Her oncologist can't say why her tumors are shrinking. |

I'm skeptical. Not to say that there isn't a link. If most people reduced their sugar intake it would likely mean a better diet as well. If less sugar means more artificial sweeteners I would expect general health to further deteriorate. |

A friend of mine went through alternative treatment for his cancer down in Mexico a number of years ago when he was diagnosed and given six months to live. The doctor's down there believe there's a definite relation between processed sugars and cancer. He was put on a rather strict diet that eliminated it's consumption in all forms. My friend is still alive today and swears it's from the diet and not eating sugar. |

I would love to see some of the studies done for something like this. I am not sure I see a link between the two either, but I am interested. |

My sister has colon cancer and we have been reading a lot about all sorts of healthy things to do to help her keep doing well. We have read a lot of articles that state that sugar feeds cancer cells and that glucose is just about the best food to keep those deadly cells happy and healthy. They say that glycolosis is a process in which cancer cells depend almost exclusively upon for their daily supply of energy. If only for that reason has she kept away from sugary foods. In as much as most articles support the idea of eating less sugary foods, even for healthy people, there's no good reason to still load up on such foods. That doesn't mean that she denies herself all sugar, she just keeps away from them for the most part and only eats sugary food with a great deal of thought. So far she is doing well (knock wood) and since there's no good reason to indulge in sugar, she (and I) stay away from them for most of our diets. |

Very nicely put Skatts. I have heard in more than one study that Fructose corn syrup is a contributing factor in acquiring cancer. I believe these two sugars are in the same category. |
