Subject: | Repat Flu | |
Have you ever heard of this term? Basically it refers to the fact that you leave your home country, the viruses mutate without you, you come home after a few years and spend the first month sick. I'm moving continents soon-how can I stay healthy? |

Make sure that you are fit and healthy before you leave. You'll be exposed to all sorts of nasties on the plane too, so up the vitamin C especially, but other vitamins too before you leave. Get a good dose of something like emergenC. |

Repat flu/expat flu is a common term in the UK and usually refers to relocating in various European countries although it can refer to the US also. It is believed to be caused by a weakening in the immune system to local bugs that you might not encounter somewhere else. That said, the best protection is to strengthen your immune system before traveling and continuing to strengthen it after returning home. |

I had never heard of this term but it does sound reasonable. I would have to agree with the previous posters in your best bet would be to give your immune system a bit of a boost before you go. |

I have heard of it but it was another name when told me to. My mother in law is dealing with that each time she comes back to the states to visit her kids now. |

I fully thought this was like when you get the flu, you feel better for about a week and then you get the flu again. This seems just as bad though. |

Is going back to one place any worse than another? I have someone that will be moving back to the US after being gone about 6 years, minus two visits in that time for holidays. Or is this the same for any place you move to? |
