Subject: | Really Bad Sunburn | |
While on vacation recently my son got a very bad sunburn while driving across country. He had the window down to try and conserve fuel and his left are was badly burned to the point that it blistered badly. I was always taught to NEVER purposely pop a burn blister because of risk of infection. My niece, however, is a nurse and she instructed him to pop it and then helped him dress it. It was much less painful then and started to heal. Anyone else heard of this? Thanks Sean |

Yes I have heard this as well. A doctor had my daughter do the same thing so apparently it must be okay to do it. |

Nope, I have never heard of this. I too always thought that you were not supposed to pop a sunburn blister. I'm glad your son got some relief from doing it, though! |

I thought the same- that you are not supposed to pop them. To leave them alone and let them go away. Learn something new daily. |

No, it is fine to pop the blisters as long as you do dress it and perhaps use some sort of cream to stop any possible infections occuring. |

You are told to not pop things because if you are untrained you could make it worse. Just like pimples. You are told to not pop them but your dermatologist may insist upon doing just this. But there is a right and a wrong way to handle popping things to prevent infection and complications. |

Medical professionals do pop blisters and once the infected liquid is gone the blister and burn does heal faster. But you shouldn't pop a blister by yourself. A doctor and a nurse know what to do and how to make sure an infection doesn't happen. |

I have always heard never to pop them also, I simply use aloe vera plants for burns. |
