Subject: Queasy Stomach

The older I get, the more of a queasy stomach that I have developed. I get sick when my dogs vomit. I mean, I literally vomit myself. I used to not be that way. I sometimes gag on my medication and feel sick before I even put it in my mouth.

Has anyone else noticed a change in what they can tolerate before they feel ill?

I would talk with your doctor about the problem. The fact that you are taking medication would raise a caution flag for me. It might be a side effect of something you are taking.

You may also be developing an ulcer. You definitely need to talk to your doctor. It could also be a few other things but you do need to see that doc.

So, this is something new for you? Were you able to change diapers and things like that without it bothering you in the past? I have a friend who cannot watch AFV when they show babies getting sick or things like that. She gags. She said it is getting worse for her too.

I've never heard of that before. I wonder if something as simple as the throat muscles not being as strong could affect ones gag reflex?

You never know though our bodies go through so many changes as we age that it could easily be just another one of those things that aging brings us :)

How common are ulcers as you age? I know somethings I can not do as well as my younger years (drinking, eating certain foods, etc.). I wonder if this could be the case as well.

I always thought the gag reflex thing was something that was made up, not like it did not happen but that it was more mind over matter type of thing. You can control it if you concentrate enough to do so.

I've often wondered if I'm getting an ulcer. Every now and then (could be 2 times a day or 2 times a week, it varies), I get this intense urge to vomit, and my stomach has a sharp pain. It seems I make a ton of saliva that I have to keep swallowing back to keep from vomiting. I haven't vomited yet.

After a minute or two, the urge goes away, the stomach pain ceases and the saliva glands quit over-producing.

Any ideas?

I'm not too familiar with ulcers, but my nephew had troubles with his gag reflex and his parents had his esophagus enlarged. That handled it for him. Another person I know had lots of trouble with gagging and acid reflux and often his stomach hurt so bad he couldn't eat. For him, he didn't have ulcers, but he'd had unhandled acid reflux for so long it caused his esophagus to scar up. He has to have his esophagus scraped every few years to keep his symptoms at bay.
