Subject: | Prostate Cancer | |
I have just found out today that someone who is very close to me got diagnosed with this terrible illness just yesterday. He is almost 80 years old, but very fit and active for his age. I am really concerned that his age will not help his cause in getting better. Do you think it will affect his recovery and his ability to cope with any treatments? |

That your friend is a fit and active 80 will really help him get through this. Of course it also depends on how advanced it is, and how his doctors plan to fight it and on how he is reacting to the news. There are a lot of things being done with prostate cancer these days and there are many options on how he can handle it. As a friend, let him know that you care and always ask if there is anything you can do to help. Being there for a friend going thorough hard times is something that you can do that will be very helpful. |

His age could affect the outcome. But his doctor would be the one to ask that question. Seeing that he is in good shape he can probably tolerate the drugs I would think. |

My grandfather got and beat prostate cancer in his 70s so it is definitely possible. I don't think he was even that active by then as he was a retired railroad employee. He did drink and smoke as well which couldn't have helped. |

My grandfather got prostate cancer in his 40's. It was the early 80's and the treatment wasn't what it is today, so he died. But science has come a long way since then. I hope your friend's situation turns out well! |
