Subject: | New Diabetes Statistics For The US | |
Here are the newest statistics from the CDC: Nearly 24 million people in the United States have diabetes, an increase of more than 3 million in two years. Nearly 8 percent of the US population has diabetes, mostly the type-2 diabetes. Fifty-seven million people have pre-diabetes, a condition that puts people at increased risk for diabetes. At least 25 percent of people with diabetes do not know they have it, but over 30 percent of people didn't know about it the last time they did this study. SO that was an improvement. Almost 25 percent of the population 60 years and older had diabetes in 2007. The highest rates are among Native Americans and Alaska Natives, with 16.5 percent affected. Close to 12 percent of blacks and 10 percent of Hispanics have diabetes, but just 7.5 percent of Asian Americans and 6.6 percent of whites. Diabetes is the seventh-leading cause of death in the United States. I don't know about you, but I find all this very depressing. It's time to ask your doc to test you for diabetes. It couldn't hurt and it might just help a lot! |

i was at a diabetes thing the other night and we were talking about that.. and the consensus is its a bit off kilter. theyare including with that people who are not officially diagnosed as diabetic but because they are obese may be diabetic. it was a lot fo reading and talking.. what is funny is the actualy numbers according to may for true diabetics: criteria placed was fasting glucose confirmed of 145 or above.. OGGT restes results lab values and A1C to properly diagnose true diabetes from all of these other possible forms.. and teh numbers are less in the US, but higher in India. I think teher will be an eventual movement to get people properly diagnoised rather than every doctor jumping on teh badnwagon saying your diabetic. It just kills me that wehn i am in tehs tore you see these peopel who ahve been told theya re diabetic and they load their cart with bad for you foods adn then when youtalkwith them, beause your standing reading labels in teh isle they say oh my doctor said I dont have tow orry about it.. theer was one guy who was going for peroxide injectiosn to cure his diabeets..ande didnt ha it after all... Many doctors are diagnosing diabetes when its not even present even when blood and lab values come back negative... so id takle those numbers with a major heaping of salt.... |

I agree that our current lifestyle trends of obesity, poor eating habits and too much stress are the biggest contributing factors, but I also don't see alot happening that will change that anytime soon. If anything its getting worse despite media campaigns to thwart the issues. |
