My mother has been living with MS for almost 20 years now. Thankfully, she still walks but has limited use of her hands. What treatments have you heard of to treat this disease? |

I have a high school friend with a mother going through the same thing now, oddly her mother was a nurse as a profession. Sometimes we never think it can happen to those in the field of health care. There are many types of new treatments out there, but it would depend on her stage too. From what I have been told AVONEX works best as a multi symptom treatment. Has she spoken to her doctor at all, or are you gathering more info now? |

Melanie, It is true that Avonex is an acceptable drug for treatment. Also, just making sure your mother is eating right and exercising will make a big difference. |

Physical therapy might do wonders for her, too. Often, they work closely with the newest medications, and the proven physical procedures have increased dramatically lately. |

My mother has ben using Avonex for almost 1 year now and it seems to have made a significant improvement in her health. I'm pretty sure she eats well but not so sure about how much she exercises. Also, I had not thought of physical therapy. I will suggest that to her. |
