Subject: Lower Back Pain

Can someone give me an advice on lower back pain. I'm sure I injured my lower back in the gym, but I never lift any heavy weights. What medications can I use to kill the pain and help recovery?

Thanks.

If there is any inflammation involved, I would ice it down asap. If you don't have a proper ice pack use a bag of frozen peas or frozen corn kernels. Makes a big difference for me. Make sure you "keep it moving" when you can. A lot of people find walking therapeutic. Myself I find I do better riding my bicycle. That stuff you can do yourself. It might be useful to visit a chiropractor as well.

I had similar injury a few years back. Philbo is right, ice is the key most of the time. It will help you ease the pain pretty much.

Thanks guys, I use ice on regular basis and it helps. This wasn't a muscle tore, I had some nerve problems in the lower back area. It is the most annoying pain there is!

I am not sure about nerve problems, can they always be fixed before they get too bad? I know some people have told me they have nerve problems for life so I am not really sure how that works.

My problem with my back is not muscular either. I have a bulged disc that interferes with the spinal cord. It isn't a problem unless it gets inflamed. Of course that happens real easy and real fast. Best thing I can do initially is always the ice.

Honestly if you have back pain and this is the first time, I would go to see the family doc. I know that's a pain and we have a tendency to want to take care of ourselves, but a back injury of any kind is nothing to sneeze at. Your back is what supports the whole body and if you injure it and don't get proper treatment, you may suffer with it the rest of your life.

I know and I'm sure that pinched nerve isn't that serious issue. This is probably what happened to me. I know because I had it before. I just wanted to know is there some light medication to make the pain go away while recovering.

Yeah, pinched nerves can be a hassle. I pinched a nerve in my neck once and for a whole week I couldn't move, I was as stiff as a board :)

My doctor is always recommending I take ibuprofen for it. It might work for you. I may as well be taking water because that stuff doesn't do anything for me.

Oddly enough, no one mentioned hot baths. I have arthritis in my lower back and it seems the only thing that really makes it relax is a bath in water as hot as I can stand

I'm not sure about those hot baths. I think hot is not recommended therapy in these cases. I think ice and cold water is much better solution.

I may try those hot baths, but I'm not sure how this will affect me. I've read and did cold therapies, which did a pretty good thing.

I'm not a doctor and I did not have any back problems, but this area is very prone to injuries. Many of my team players had problems and I know they have used ice to recover faster.

Actually I think that in this case only medications can help you. Once I hurt my back so much doctor that doctor prescribed me injection of painkiller directly in my back.

What do you think?
