Subject: Insomnia

I have a horrible getting to sleep most nights even when I'm really tired. I've tried all kinds of herbs and minerals, but it seems like the real problem--don't laugh--is that I hate to go to bed. I feel like a little kid about the whole thing, but honestly, every night I protest having to stop what I'm doing and go to bed.

This may sound silly but have you ever been checked for ADD? This is a really common symptom for many people with this disorder.

Maybe, you need to get a nice big comfy teddy to cuddle with, while you sleep. You could also spoil yourself and buy some new comfy bedding that you would just love to slip into every night.

Actually, the teddy sounds like a good idea. My husband probably wouldn't appreciate it. Have you tried a glass of warm milk? My granny always swore by it.

I have tried an herbal remedy from Dr Bach's Herbal Remedies called "Rescue Remedy". It's an anti-anxiety product distilled from several herbs and flowers. I use it for anxiety but it does make me sleepy too. It's all natural. I find it at GNC and it is really reasonably priced. You may want to try it.

I would start to think about unwinding and switching off properly before you get to bed. Ultimately you have to just accept that you need sleep.

So what about-if you struggle with the going to bed, could you just let sleep happen where you are? On the sofa perhaps? Would that take the fight out it?

Once you get into a better routine it might be easier to move sleep to the bedroom.

Good suggestions everyone. Thanks a lot.

I haven't ever been checked for ADD (although my mom swears I am. :) )

I like the idea of getting nice comfy covers to snuggle up in. And Dogget, your suggestion is one I have not tried as well. Stay tuned.

ADD or caffeine would be my two guesses, after that I would wonder if you are super stressed as sometimes that alone can be a trigger. I still have issues falling asleep fast, but I am working on it - for me most times its within 30 minutes.

I definitely often feel super-stressed. So, I suppose that's a factor. I don't have caffeine too darn often.

If I could get to sleep within 30 minutes, I would be really happy. Generally, even if I lay down and turn out the lights, my mind just starts running--sometimes about stressful things, but it doesn't have to be. Then I have to read or something to distract myself and hopefully enable myself to fall asleep.
